Great 1st Weather Station Review by taichilady
Value For the price, this has got everything you need with the exception of a rain gauge; and, since I live in a desert we rarely get rain; so, why bother. It was easy to set up and quickly started working for my area. It has a 14 day learning period for your location; but, just 2 days after we got it, it said there was a chance of rain. At first we thought it was wrong; but, we checked the weather channel and there WAS a small storm that had formed a few miles north of us. So, it was right; there was a chance of rain! We are very satisfied with this product. (Posted on 11/16/12)

Great product for the money Review by David
Value Product works as you would expect. Outside tempurature sensor is solar shielded so no false readings. It would be nice to have an atomic clock but for $50 what do you expect. The wireless range is decent also. I have the two units about 65 feet apart and it is 100% on the signal.

Very good Review by Rick
Value This is a very good unit. I wish this model provided the wind direction, but you have to purchase a different model for that, and I wish there was a back light on the unit to see it in the dark. Overall, very practical and informative. A great buy for me. (Posted on 4/22/12)

Great for the price Review by Jonathan
Value Back in the seventies and early eighties and I designed and sold weather systems so I have a good sense of how these things work. The sensor housing is patterned after professional units, less the motorized aspiration. The instruction manual claims there is a motor in it that is solar powered to pull air over the sensor, but this is not the case. The housing lessens the effects of the sun beating down on the unit and giving artificially high readings.
The design is fairly effective except when the sun is low on the horizon then the light reaches in and heats the sensor. The rest of the time, it is fairly accurate to about a degree Fahrenheit.
The ability to see dew point, and barometric pressure is a good thing. However, it is lacking a mechanism to adjust the pressure reading to sea level which is the Weather Service standard no matter what the altitude. I live by the ocean so this is not a problem for me. However, if you live in mountainous regions, this can cause large errors in the barometer readings. However, remember that the pressure trends are much more important that the actual reading.
The convenience of mounting to a PVC 3/4" pipe is nice except try mounting to an 8 to 10 foot piece and it becomes wobbly. Better to use metal if you can or encase the 3/4" pipe into the next larger size PVC pipe for stability. Mounting to a fence is tenable at best because the wind flow is distorted by the fence and causes incorrect readings.
All in all, this is a great unit for the money. If you are serious about weather as a hobby, it would be better to go one step up and get wind direction too, You can do some nice short range forecasting having the weather vane. The AcuRite Models 00825, 01010, 01500, or 01015 would be much better for you. The most important thing for measuring wind, that you get the sensor totally in the clear and above any obstructions.
