Installed my sensor on the roof to get an accurate wind speed and direction. This is makes it impossible to clear it of snow and ice. This makes the wind speed and wind chill functions unusable until the temperature gets high enough to melt the ice off the sensor. This winter it will not happen in the near future. I will be good to find a way to put a small heater to keep the sensor clear of ice.
This 5 in 1 sensor came as part of a dual display weather station I bought from Acurite to replace my old 5 in 1 sensor that was giving way inaccurate temperature readings. So far it's working as expected. Acurite says this is their "second generation" 5 in 1 which means it has more replaceable parts such as the temperature/humidity module which is what I think failed on my other 5 in 1. I recently added a smartHub and it had no problem syncing with the sensor.
Very easy to install. Mounted the sensor on a 4" X 4" post on the patio up about 15'...next to the ham radio antenna. We'll see if the wireless causes interference with the radio. I cut a 15" piece of 3/4" PVC [schedule 40] to extend the sensor 2' above the patio cover.
Not really interested in the software part of the unit; we have a NWS station about one mile north.
All in all I am very pleased with my gift. I will keep you informed of my/its progress.
So far, thanks Acu>Rite, for the Model 01536 product! We'll see how well it performs during the rainy season!
Very easy to install outside. Just face the solar panel to the south, level it, and it is up and running, all in one package. Nice to have the sensors all together in one place. I plan on purchasing the remote battery accessory. Not so easy to replace the batteries, but here in the Great Frozen North, Michigan, it only has to be done every two (2) years if you use good quality, recommended Lithium batteries. Still, not having to climb so high would be nice. I would purchase again.
I just purchased a replacement for the outdoor unit on my 5-1. The old one of course was out of warranty and failed in less than two years. So now I am on my third unit. They just don't last long enough, neighbor had same failures with his. Since I just installed I will have to wait a few months to see how this one performs and whether the "replaceable modules" are any help. As to accuracy, the only questionable area is wind speed, which never seems to correlate with nearby official site.
14 months and the sensor failed. 12 month warranty. Cost of replacement sensor is $80. I am very disappointed.
I have had this unit for about 10 months. The unit was a replacement for an older model. it worked fine for about a month and then the rain gauge stopped recording. There was no debris to block the rain, it just stopped transmitting. All of the other functions work fine.
This is my second one and I find it is a great device to get my home temperature. Everything I want in a display and in my app. Easy to put together and use.
I highly recommend it.
Bought this as emplacement for my old 5 in 2 sensor that had a bad humidity sensor, this one is much more accurate very happy with the improvements, and the fact that the humidity sensor is now user replaceable is fantastic. My temperature is now within 1 degree even on the hottest day, where before with my old sensor it always read over 100 at some point during the day even on an 85 degree day.
Delivery was fast and set-up was easy. The temperature recorded the first evening around 8.00pm was 8 degrees C high, and the 6.00 am readings next morning were also high. so ordered the alternate sensor with the two solar panels which has given good results.
Wonder how accurate it will be next June in this more northerly latitude when the sun does not go down till 10.00 pm - Perhaps Acurite should consider another sensor with three panels for northern communities - especially Alaska.
I purchased this January 2015 and the humidity reading failed June 2016. I called and found I had to purchase a new replacement unit. I also purchased the double solar upgrade and I believe this should be included on all models because the temperature reading was always high in the warm season. I have read many reviews on amazon.com with many of the same issues. The new unit that I purchased supposedly has a replaceable humidity sensor when it fails again so I will not have to purchase a completely new unit. I thought when I talked to the technician, I was getting a better deal to replace the problem. Not true. She just sold me a new unit. I enjoy the unit when it is working and it seems to be accurate. I'm frustrated with the service. I thought they would send a new board or part of the unit at cost to solve my issues instead of having me buy a new unit.
I continued to be displeased with the rain event logging as opposed to the much more useful daily rainfall tracking which every other major weather station utilizes to keep track of rainfall. Additionally, I've been waiting since Thanksgiving 2015 for Acurite to develop compatibility within the Windows 10 environment. If these issues are not soon reconciled by Acurite, both of the weather stations I have purchased from Costco will be returned in accordance with their "dissatisfaction with product" warranty.
The temperature reads a degree or two higher on sunny days than the house thermostat outdoor sensor reads, but both pretty much agree for night time temperatures. All the other readings seem accurate. I had to adjust the position of the outdoor sensor and that set off the rain gauge, thinking it was in a downpour. The only way I could see to change the false rain gauge reading was to reset the monitor in the house so all data was lost to that monitor. I let the second one as is so I had the accumulated data for all the other readings, otherwise I'm happy with the device. I like the duel monitors inside the house. I have one in the kitchen near the door to the back yard and one in the laundry room to the garage, so I can check conditions on my way out the door. I wish I had colour screens though.
I bought a whole new system (sensor + display) when my old (16 feet high) sensor was taken out by a flying trampoline. The last recorded gust was 28 mph. I had the "old" system for several years and never had a problem with its operation. Like others have said, hot, sunny days may have had suspect high temps (compared to a nearby shaded sensor), but otherwise I have never doubted its accuracy, down to -30F. On the plus side, the "new" system transmits to my old display so now I have readouts/alarms in two different rooms.
I ordered this as a replacement for a four-year-old 5-in-1 that served me well but was showing its age. The new one arrived a day or two early! I switched out the dual solar panel I had on the old one with the single panel on the new one. I had recently bought the dual panel as an upgrade to my old 5-in-1. Everything went well and after I reset my display monitor, the new 5-in-1 connected perfectly. I then upgraded the firmware in my "hub" and voila, I am a happy camper with my AcuRite system. I love the graphics of the upgraded hub software. Great job, AcuRite!
I purchased this 5 in 1 sensor in February of 2014 in a package that included a display and the internet bridge. Everything worked great and I was happy with my purchase until sometime around September of 2015 when it got "stuck" at the same temperature (I think it was something like 81 degrees). There was no fluctuation at all. I changed the batteries in both the sensor and the display monitor and then the temperature was stuck again at -40 degrees. I live in Florida and obviously it never gets that cold here. I tried all the troubleshooting tips in the user forums on this site, but no luck. Still wasn't working. This comes with a one year warranty, but I still expected this device to last several years. I emailed Acurite for help, but all they could offer me was a 20% discount if I decided to buy a replacement sensor. A sensor that still comes with the same one year warranty. A sensor that the company will not stand behind when it fails again after less than 2 years. No thanks Acurite. You got my money once, but never again. I'll get my weather station gear elsewhere from now on.
I don't recommend this product or any package that comes with this 5 in 1 sensor, but as with anything, your mileage may vary.
The new 5in1 was purchased to replace an older unit in which the wind gauge "went out." The new one is working perfectly with the console display and AcuLink bridge. Everything seems to be pretty accurate.
I set this sensor up in Jan. 2014, and it has been through two rough winters. I did have to bring it in and thaw it out after one really bad storm that blew so hard that wet snow was driven inside the unit, followed by rapidly falling temperatures that froze it up. I'm glad we don't get many storms like that. While I had it inside, I checked the batteries on a load meter, and they were still reading 1.5 volts, after 14 months of use. I use brand name lithium batteries, because we get temps. down to -20 F at times. Honestly, I would use lithiums at any temp., because they are less prone to leakage and seem to last a long time. Check out my other reviews for details on how I checked the calibration of the rain collector. I recently bought a new dual solar panel model and swapped this one out. I plan on storing this one as a spare. You really can't beat the price for this sensor, when you get one of the bundle packages.

The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is it's only been up for a month. We'll see what a whole year will bring. Easy to set up, joined the bridge right away, and has been quite stable. Doesn't come with directions, but its pretty intuitive if you've worked with weather instruments before.
I lost my sensor in a Category 2 hurricane (Arthur) but the sensor and unit for the past 9 months has been fairly reliable. Only issues are that the wind does not read accurately and for whatever reason the barometer never "learned" how to report accurately. The wind was generally 10MPH low but there are some trees that are higher than the 35 foot mount point so that is likely the reason. The barometer was reliably .10 inches low even at ground level. Perhaps the new one will be more accurate.
The temperature sensor in full sun is probably 4 to 5 degrees warmer than what is reported by the NWS station located 3/4 mile away. At night it is dead-on. I have an old Acurite station that is accurate in temperature with the sensor mounted about 13 feet up a tree that was dead on right out of the box. This one being mounted in the sun at the apex of 8 pitch roof and elevated 8 feet above the gable top is reliably 4+ degrees warm with the solar panel cell for the fan facing due south. I have never had an issue with the humidity and this unit is mounted 1 mile from the oceanfront (NC).
Next time I will contact customer service as it appears they are responsive to other customers. I would still recommend the purchase based on overall value.
Since i was replacing previous 5 in one sensor, easy to install on my existing mount and worked well out of the box. I am not sure I should have had to pay for it given class problem with humidity sensor seen in these reviews. My unit was 2 years old when humidity had wild fluctuations. Also, I do not understand why new and replacement 5 in one sensors do not come with the "improved" dual solar panels. Why market and sell an upgrade, but not offer it on full system original models????? Still, for value, pretty accurate weather station. Will have to see about reliability this time around.
My first 5-in1 worked great, until the mount that held it to my house came loose and subsequent high winds sent it on a 25 foot drop to a gravel surface where it basically exploded into several pieces. Being highly addicted to my PWS, and given the fact that I already had over $200 invested, I had to get a replacement unit as soon as possible.
One complaint that I have is shipping. I wanted it quickly, so I chose the FedEx Home Delivery option. It turns out that Home Delivery is four (4) business days if you live on the west coast. Anyway, I got it in the four days as promised and had it up and running within 30 minutes.
This unit works just like the original, except that in order to get it to be recognized by the in home display, I had to remove the batteries and lost all my save data from my original date of install. That was a major bummer, but everything is working great now. And for the record, my mount is much more secure now!
Another A+ to the Acurite crew for making such awesome equipment at such a fair price (compared to the competition). The 5-in1 Weather Stations rival units costing 4 and 5 times as much.
Excellent all around but do wish it had the Moon phases and the display had some kind of lighting to see the readouts.
Excellent service, above and beyond your normal warranty services, by others.
Have had ours for several years and has always worked great, Had a problem
with the humidity portion and they replaced the whole unit. Very pleased with
the service and quality. Thank you.
Bought a 5 and 1 weather station from my local walmart after about 5 months the humidity sensor went and I contacted acurite and the gave me a new 5 and 1 weather station. This one works great so far. Thank you.
Phone help was great. when issue could not be resolved due to faulty sending unit, it was replaced no questions asked. it arrived faster than was expected. working fine now.
I've had the weather station for 9 months and it seems to be accurate and does what it claims to do. My objections is that the wind cups are very delicate - I broke one trying to clean off some snow from around it. This part should be replaceable without having to buy another $90 unit.
I received my replacement unit yesterday in the mail. I put the batteries in and it is working great. Going to put it outside today. I hope it works well!!!
I had my first 5-in-1 came with my 1525 weather station and it worked reliably for a little over a year. The unit reliably contacted my console inside my house and the batteries in the unit lasted almost a year before changing. The rain gage was accurate and measured the same as my cup measure. The temperature is accurate except for the times that the sun is too far east or west and the fan does not turn to equilibrate the air temperature inside the unit. At that time the temperature is about 2 C warmer than it should be. (replacing with the new top with two solar panels may fix that).
-Wind speeds seem low but I have some wind shadow problems in my siting of the sensors so I can't blame the 5-in-1 unit.
- The batteries are easy to replace and since one radio transmitter sends for all the sensors and it is in one package, it is very easy to service.
- Eventually the temperature/humidity sensor failed (both readings froze at high or low values). When Acu-rite was contacted and the problem explained, they kinkly replaced the unit and I am up and running again.
- I have had other weather stations and used to have a terrible time with sensors not talking to the console and not being able to download data to my computer. The Acu-rite system doesn't have those problems for me.
- I guess I give only four stars because the sensor failure ... otherwise five stars.
I owned this system a few years. Worked great except for humidity sensor which I learned was a manufacture defect and the company sent a new one for free. Great to talk with a service rep who is actually an American speaking clearly. Great service, great company, great product. I have tried other comparable make/model systems in the past and none could compare to the ease of installation/use and the quality/accuracy/durability of this system.
When installing new batteries, it fell off of the table and broke the wind cups! This this the reason I purchased a replacement unit. But the only complaint I have is after ordering and receiving the new 5-1, I saw a complete unit at Walmart for $99.95, so for $ 10.00 dollars more, this would have been a much better value than the $ 89.95 plus shipping!
I guess the next time I need a replacement I will do a thorough investigation and getter a better buy
I am 3 weeks into owning the unit. I am impressed with the fact that I can have my own temps and windspeed vs having to rely on the weather service location 15 miles away. I will await its performance after a year and check back in.
I am on my second replacement and I hope this one will last much longer. The wind speed on the bad unit is good and so is the direction readout, as is the rain gauge, but within about six months, the humidity stuck on 99% and has remained there. After almost a year the temp gauge went crazy, and reads anywhere from 50 to 5 degrees high. Not reliable.
To their credit, acurite replaced it again, and I am looking forward to a good unit, finally.
I live right on the water, and maybe the humidity sensor just cannot deal with the high humidity.
All in one is very convenient. Range has been good, temperature sensor has problems at the ocean.
It gives a lot of wx variables, some are accurate, some are not. This will be our 3rd 5in1 unit and humidity is consistently wrong and wind speed on MPH is low at best. I'll qualify this, up to around 10 MPH it's not half bad but after that wind is extremely under measured. A tip to compensate... go to set units and put wind speed on KPH and that number will be pretty close to what actual wind speed in miles per hour is (as compared to our Davis Vantage Pro2). This wx sta was purchased for our campsite and we bring it home after the season is over and install on our mast. And finally the barometric pressure is not calibratable and that's a problem. I know they tout their learning mode but the fact of the matter is, the actual reading is wrong, the rise and fall is fine but the number is wrong if that's important to you. Example: right now our REAL sea level pres is 30.02" and rs, the 5in1 is 29.83" and stdy. I'll end by saying for the money it's not a bad unit save for the above mentioned problems (if fixed, would be a great unit for the money).
My husband and I are really enjoying our weather station. I received it for a gift as I've always liked the watching the weather. Now my husband has become interested in the weather all because of the weather station. Whenever our family stop by they always take a look at the weather station to see what it says about the weather for the day. We're farmers so I guess the weather is kind of a big deal.
I've had the unit five months, easy to install, quite accurate, rain guage is on the money ever time. Money well spent so far.
The humidity sensor on my original unit went out just a little past the one year warranty period. Acu-Rite acknowledged that my unit was included in a series that had that problem and replaced it. Glad to be back on track and only experiencing the 80%+ humidity we have in the south vs. 99% constantly.
I have owned this station for almost a year and it has performed without a single hitch, it has actually proven to be more accurite than the local weathercasters. I highly recommend it.
For the cost... this has been a good weather parameter measuring product. I only had one issue and have one recommendation for this unit. After seven months, there was a problem with measuring dew point and humidity. One call to Chaney instruments and a replacement was on the way. The only recommendation I have has to do with the ambient air temperature. In direct sunlight, the unit measures a temperature as much as 10 degrees higher than actual. The unit needs some sort of shielding from direct sunlight on the temperature sensor. Maybe placement in the housing itself will mitigate this. Other than that, I am very satisfied with this unit and would recommend it to weather enthusiasts and observers.
Thank you Acurite... Ken
This is a great unit, but cold weather and ice caused one of wind speed anemometer cups to break and fall off. Can these be replaced?
I have been using this weather station for about 1 1/2 years now and the only problem I had was the anemometer cups seize. Support suggested to lube the cups, I did and it has been working well.
My decision to purchase this unit over a all others was the update time, Acu-rite
has a 14 second update, most others are 45 second except the 400.00 dollar Davis. I saved 300.00 dollars by adding 12 more seconds wait time, worth it to me and this unit has been accurate.
Good value for the price of the sensor. Works good for a area that experiences all types of weather. Highly recommend the weather station.
Very nice device. Quality construction, reasonable price and it connected with the Acu-Link and IPhone software almost by it's self. It interfaces with my weather underground account to provide historical data, super cool. Really happy I got this gadget. Oh ya I have a temp/humidity sensor in basement to keep an eye on things down there. Love this stuff.
i bought the 5n1 unit at bass pro shop 3 weeks ago. my sensor quit working and i called product support and they shipped me a new unit on the same day for free. the unit is highly accurate and reliable. i would recommend this company and their products to anyone wanting a high quality weather station..........thank you acurite.
I have had the 5 in 1 sensor for about a month and just added the internet bridge and couldn't be happier. Quality product!
This unit replaced my Acrite 01025. All measurements accurate when compared to analog instruments. Enjoy ability to dowload data to my computer. Still working on connection to forecasting software. I am very satisfied with this weather station.
I"ve been using the 5 in 1 sensor for about a month now and have to say it seems to pretty acurite! It's great to know what the temp is in my backyard and how much rain we got in my exact location. Thanks
