AcuRite Helps the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center Educate and Entertain Visitors
The Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center is an interactive learning center devoted to the science and folklore of weather prediction. It is located in a 100-year-old former post office in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania…home of the world’s most famous groundhog; Punxsutawney Phil.
The center had an exhibit that was not seeing a lot of foot traffic. In addition, the exhibit served very little in terms of educational purposes.
Using a variety of AcuRite products combined with a handful of artifacts already on hand, Discovery Center officials were able to create an exhibit called the “Weather Observation Station.”
The Pro Weather Station’s 5-in-1 sensor was mounted behind the building, eight feet off the ground, enabling visitors to see where and how the weather data is being collected and fed to the color display located inside the exhibit.
The Weather Observation Station now enables visitors to see the different types of equipment used for home weather monitoring. Educators also frequently use the exhibit as a teaching tool when demonstrating to children and other visitors on how weather conditions are tracked and predicted.
Visitors are really intrigued by the variety of weather forecasting devices displayed in our AcuRite Weather Observation Station.

“The AcuRite products allowed us to update a display that had been in place for several years, but was not a big favorite of visitors, and could not be used as an educational tool,” said Marlene Lellock, Director of the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center. “Now we have an additional tool for educational purposes and a more interesting display for visitors.”
