Overall I am very satisfied! I ordered the Acu-Rite "Digital Refrigerator Thermometer and Freezer Thermometer with Temperature Alerts". I have a freezer upstairs two rooms away from the receiver and a freezer downstairs. One freezer is old and the other is older. This was my attempt to avoid replacing two freezers, but still have some peace of mind. After 10 days it became obvious the sensors weren't working. I called customer service and the gentleman I spoke with spent about 15 minutes with me trying different options. He then concluded there was a malfunction and said a new unit would be sent out the next day! I have to give Customer Service an A+. Received the new unit. Seemed to work OK, but even with lithium batteries, the downstairs unit stopped sending a strong enough signal after 2 weeks. I swapped unit locations and everything is working perfectly. A week ago, I heard a beeping in the middle of the night. Yup, the sensor was telling me the downstairs freezer had reached the upper limit I'd set at 16 degrees F. I reset the upper limit to 18 degrees, but all that did was get me an hour more sleep--the alarm went off again. (My bedroom is two rooms away from the receiver.) The story goes on, but the alarms did exactly what they're supposed to do and potentially saved me from losing hundreds of dollars of not-easily-replaced frozen game foods. I had a bit of a rocky start, but the alarm units are providing the peace of mind I was hoping for. I reset the temp displays about once a week so I know after a few minutes that the freezer sensors are still sending a signal--Great!
I’ve owned a couple of these throughout the past 5 years. I’m sure everyone is having a good experience with them, and that I am just picky, but as convenient as they are the reading on mine is off by aprox 7 degrees.
I use mine to monitor the temps in my RV refrigerator /freezer from the house prior to traveling. I also have an analog thermometer in both the freezer and refrig. There has always been a difference in the two thermometers, so just for laughs I bought two mercury thermometers to act as a third opinion. Well, the analog and mercury thermometers were within 3 degrees of each other, while the Acurite was on average 7 degrees off. This causes me stress by causing my wife stress (if you get my meaning).
My question would be this. Is there a way to manually calibrate the transmitters or do I just have to deal with the problem? I do like the Acurite wireless because I don’t need to walk out to the RV to check if the refrig is cold, but it would be REALLY nice if the level of accuracy was better.
Absolutely love this thermometer. It works perfectly. I how ever lost the sensors in my move, is there a replacement for the sensors?
Helps with the fridge out on the deck and the freezer in the utility room. Just wish the outside unit had wifi.
Have one installed in my RV trailer to keep track of temperature while driving (I won't drive with the propane turned on). After 4-5 hrs driving with the fridge/freezer turned off the temp in both the freezer and fridge only went up a couple of degrees. Have the thermometer mounted on the hood fan which is next to the fridge - easy to read and give me a good idea of how the fridge is working as outside temps will have fluctuations on inside temp of the fridge. Good product
Unit performs as advertised except that it doesn't update every 17 seconds. It updates every 90 seconds. This is probably due to trying to extend battery life. The magnetic connection of the receiver to the fridge is nice if you don't have a stainless door. True stainless wouldn't even attract a magnet but the newer refrigerators must have a steel underlayment because the magnets do in fact stick to my stainless door. The magnets will scratch the heck out of your stainless if you move the receiver around a lot. My only suggestion to that is be careful if you put it on stainless and then leave it alone.
Great concept and overall product. However, out of the box I installed fresh batteries in all the components and left both sensors side by side on the counter overnight. The refrigerator sensor reads approximately 2 degrees above actual temperature and the freezer sensor reads approximately 4 degrees above actual temperature. I checked them against a calibrated digital thermometer as well as an infrared thermometer reading of the area. I can always subtract from the reading to determine actual temperature but would be nice if the sensors were properly calibrated.
We store a lot of food in our freezer including my wife's special strawberry freezer jam (yum!). Every so often one of us, probably me, would not shut the door tight and the freezer would frost over and the coils would fill with ice and stop working. The only solution was to empty the freezer out take off the back panel and unthaw things with a blow drier. This was always a major crisis with hundreds of dollars worth half-thawed food and dripping ice cream. Now when the freezer gets left open a bit the buzzer goes of and we simply shut the door. Notes: I got the lithiumm batteries for the freezer and it has been more than 6 months without needed to change them. The refrigerator and the freezer are about 8 feet appart so we have had no problems with connections to either. I checked the temperature with a logger and they appeared to be reasonably accurate. My only problem is that it took about two weeks to select thermal limits that did not cause false alarms, but this is mostly the falt of the variability of my freezer and refrigerator. 48°F and 31° worked best for the refrigerator and 28° and -22° worked best for the freezer. Adjustments were easy to make. Great product for a good price!
This seems to work well. I had been having suspicions about the freezer operation and this system allows me to monitor it and the refrigerator on one console. I recently reset the min/max values at the start of a 10-day family trip. On returning, the values were within expected limits for the refrigerator and freezer. My only gripe is that the documentation does not have any information on the accuracy of the sensors (or even what type they are) so I can't easily determine the measurement uncertainty.
Even through the doors and across the room it displays the temperature. Our grand kid left the door open and the alarm saved us.
We have lost freezer contents several times over the year. It is a great investment.
what can I say....the darn thing really works.....as stated. I bought 2 of them and thinking about getting another 1 or 2 more...zi am very happy
I wish I knew about this product years ago. After I did a factory reset everything worked fine.
I installed two sensors in my freezers. One is a chest freezer and the other is a standup model. The sensors would not resigster on the home unit at 10 feet and 20 feet. I had to put the home unit on the standup freezer for it to register both sensors. This is not a deal breaker as I will be able to hear the alarm from the location. It is nice to see the temperatures at a glance of each unit.
I still think this is a great unit to monitor temperature. If you are not using them in a fridge or freezer you should expect to get a great range from the sensor.
I really like the quality of this item. The home unit is built solid with really strong magnets. The sensors are also of a quality plastic with large clips. Most of these types of units (from other companies) are just expensive junk. This sensor is well worth it. Great price and great quality.
I purchased this item to protect both of my deep Freezers. I have a lot of meat that I purchased and need to keep it safe from accidental doors left ajar. I have had a few occasions where the doors have not closed properly due to items not properly stored. This caused the door to be left open about 1 inch which did not go over well. This item will protect my $100's of meat.
It was easy to set and both sensors can be used in the freezer or two fridges if you have them.
The home unit and sensors are built solid and of high quality. Very happy with AcuRite. If using in the freezer you are going to have to purchase Lithium Batteries (AA) 2 per sensor.
I bought this to monitor our Big Freezer that we keep a whole beef in, and it is Fantastic. I don't know how they get it to work in an ALL STEEL CABINET FREEZER, but it does. It is about 60 ft. from the Main Head Unit and on a different level in our Lower level. I put the Thermometer in and watched it change as time went on with it in the freezer. I am going to buy another one for our other units so I can monitor them all. SUPER UNIT. Can Not RATE IT ANY HIGHER but I would give it 6 STARS if I could.
Pros: Good strong magnet on receiving unit for attaching to exterior of fridge. Suction cup for frig sending unit works well. Placed freezer sending unit in one of the door bins and working well. Large easy to read display on receiving unit. Receiving unit size just right and good style. No problems in getting units to sync up and start recording temps.
Cons: The clear button to clear out the min/max readings is not working properly and ACU RITE promptly replaced the unit. Based on the units overall performance and the fact that ACU RITE customer service was very responsive, I give both unit and ACU RITE high marks.
My original purchase had one remote that gave erroneous readings I contacted customer service and the items was promptly replaced. Both the refrigerator and freezer units measure and record the temperatures accurately.
Bought this to record temperatures in a new refrigerator on the patio.. It didn't seem to keep cool enough.. Found out the outside temp must be in the late spring, summer range for the fridge to work properly outside. Great for monitoring both fridges and the freezer.. Suction cups on probes are useless for me..
The Digtal Refrigertor / freezer Thermometer helped me correct the settings for the two compartments. Now my refrige works much better the way it should.
I think this would make a great gift idea especially around the holidays.
Its important to make settings changes though out the year as the temperature
in your home changes with the seasons.
I've purchased two of these wireless refrigerator/freezer thermometers and they are the best I've ever used. Very well designed in terms of ease of operation and its options to mount the two sensors inside the refrigerator/freezer and the outside unit has both folding legs and magnets. It works exactly as advertised. The instruction book says to use a lithium battery in the freezer sensor because of the low temperatures but I've always used regular alkaline battery with no problems. Battery life is excellent - in excess of one year. Max-min feature and alarms work well and are easy to set up. Because the display unit makes no reference to "refrigerator" or "freezer" (it only says "Sensor 1" and Sensor 2") this thermometer could also be used to monitor temperature and max/min and alarm settings for any general use, not just for a refrigerator and freezer. A very good design..
For the price, this refriderator/freezer alarm thermometer is one of the best designed electronic devices I own. I can set the Hi/Low alarms to any practical amounts I want. The display shows both current temps, the highest and lowest temps for both transmitter probes. I use my unit to monitor both my upstairs and downstairs freezers. I like the fact that the alarm goes off when either of the freezers are opened too long. I recommend this Item highly.
Just what I needed. This little device signals when the refrigerator has been left open by sensing he temp. Will probably save us a lot of $.
We actually bought this for another purpose, it has great range, we used them in the baby/kids rooms to keep tabs on the temperature and adjust the vents to find the right balance and it worked great for that, we set the alarms for if the room got too cold or too warm, it's perfect, easy to set up. A couple weeks ago the refrigerator seemed warmer than it should be and we used it for its intended purpose, and found it to be extremely helpful, I was able to troubleshoot (freezer was the correct temp, fridge was not) and repair the fridge myself and then easily keep tabs on it to make sure it was maintaining the temperature we wanted. It’s great to be able to just glance at the fridge and know what temperature each compartment is at. Also, if any problems in the future the alarm will warn you before you spoil food.
Have had this in place for 6 months. No problems, but I keep it on the refridgerator door. After problems with our last refridgerator I like being able to see the current temp, and temp range. We also get a lot of power bumps, so The range is a good indicator if the power was off too long. I am going to get another for our boat.
it works perfect
Works great on our boat. @ years and still working
I originally purchased one of these for my refrigerator inside and liked it so much that I purchased another unit for my garden shed. I have a refrigerator and a upright freezer side by side and I used a sending unit in each one. Works great!
Had mine for 8 months in my Class A Motor Home - one in the basement (thick flooring with tile) in a Dometic Freeze and the other in my residential Maytag. After losing the $400 contents of my freezer twice it was time for a better solution....this is it. I set it for a high of 17 degrees F and forget it. Well I look at it everyday having place the receiver near the entry door where I can't miss it.. Yesterday I woke up to it beeping, but is was hungry for a battery refill. Worth every penny.
Just what the doctor ordered. A great item that does exactly what the add said it does. Bought another as a gift.
I've had this installed for about 1 month. Both transmitters and receiver are working well. The freezer chest transmitter is located on the basememt floor about 10' (below)from the receiver on the main floor and the 2nd transmitter is in my frige on the same floor (2nd) within 15'. All working OK. So far, I can recomend this product.
I bought this for our RV refrigerator. We have a wired thermometer but I wanted a wireless type to get rid of the wire from the sensor to the display that runs under the door gasket. I was a little skeptical that a wireless thermometer would work but it worked so well I could bring the receiver in the house and watch the refrigerator cool down the night before we left for a trip. The display has magnets for mounting that don't stick to a our fridge (all plastic door), we just stick the display to our stove cover as its metal and right over the fridge. The remotes have two mounts; a suction cup and a spring clamp. The display has a min/max function, alarms and it's large enough to be seen easily. All-in-all its perfect for our needs.
I've been using this product for just over a month now, and I absolutely love it. I use one sensor in the kitchen freezer and one in the garage deep freezer. The receiver is about halfway between the two (maybe 15 feet from each unit) and works fine. I like that it records the highest and lowest temps, and it's easy to clear those (each morning if desired!). The alarms can be turned off if you don't want to use them. YOU set the alarm temps. Just make sure you buy lithium batteries for any sensors you want to use in the freezer. If you have trouble with the receiver, try taking out the batteries and then putting them back in. (Also mentioned in the user directions). I highly recommend this product!
I'll keep it short and to the point. It works perfect. It is great to be able to adjust your temps to where you actually want them. The suction cups do not work that very good in my refrigerator but the clips hold onto the shelves just fine. It recommends a lithium battery in the freezer side but so far a standard battery is working fine for me. If you want a wireless unit this is the way to go.
