How to Calibrate the Rain Gauge:

  1. Very happy with system review by Stan on 12/30/2016

I just received the unit about a week ago, replacing another company's similar system. The old system's rain gauge was very inaccurate and would read about 1/2 of what my physical glass tube unit would read. Although I've put the glass tube unit away for the winter, when we had rain last week, this new Acurite unit reported very similar results to what was reported in the paper from a station about 5 miles from here.

It took a few minutes to get used to how to get to the daily max/min readings but once I did figure it out, it has been easy.

  2. Control buttons review by Charles on 4/29/2016

Control buttons are impossible to read without a flashlight and glasses. The button uses should be highlighted in white.

  3. works great review by Leonard on 4/29/2016

All I did is take it out of the box, plugged it in and magically, I had access both through display and on my computer. Great stuff.

  4. Love It...... review by UssTRex on 1/27/2016

Read Instructions First including calibration and winter freeze warning and got a little worried.
But had no problem setting up, positioning or understanding how it functioned.
No calibration needed and no spiders (fingers crossed) so far, Love it.
No problems from snow or freezing water despite two snowfalls.
Rain Gauge has been correct and looks good by my front door.

  5. Change just one thing review by Toad on 7/14/2015

The unit does everything it claims very well. Good value for the money. I would like to have a sliding 7 day window instead of a weekly total that resets every Sunday. A sliding window is much more useful for determining if my garden and landscaping have received adequate rain in the previous 7 days.

  6. Rain Gauge 00899 review by Diane on 5/19/2015

Bought my Acurite rain gauge a couple of weeks ago & finally had some rain today - it recorded .30".
I checked it's accuracy against readings from an Acurite Personal Weather Station by the Thames River & the Groton/New London Airport which is the official local weather station for the NWS with each being approximately 2 miles from my home.
The Acurite PWS recorded .32" - the airport recorded .34". Can't get much better than that!

I'll be on the lookout for spiders!

  7. Best Rain Gauge yet. review by GLENN on 6/13/2014

I have bought a few rain gauges for acurite but this is the best and most accurate so far. I would definitely recommand this model to my friends.

  8. Looks good and works good review by Dave on 6/6/2014

This unit replaces an old Acurite rain gauge @10 yrs. old that finally quit working.
This unit looks better and has a much better display and a better rain collector. Have only had one small rain so far, but did read .22", and agreed closely to the weather man. A small mesh screen under and over the top should keep the spiders out I consider it a good buy.

  9. Easy setup, just complete. review by Richard on 6/5/2014

Time will tell as to reliability. Send me another review request in a couple of months.
Everything went easily during installation & setup. A nice compact unit with easy to read digital units. Instructions were well done.

  10. works very well review by willy on 4/23/2014

This rain gauge works very well. Easy to install I intend to purchase one for a gift.

  11. This one works. review by Sally on 4/10/2014

I have purchased several wireless rain guages and this is the 1st one that actually works. It has passed all the tests, low cost, easy to install, low maintenance, it works, and is accurate. It is also nice that if I need to it can be calibrated for for rain measurement. I would recommend this to others to buy.

  12. not good review by tiggrcat on 12/8/2013

bought this one at home depot as a close out and it hasn't worked correctly yet

in touch with customer service now :)

  13. Best Gauge Yet review by jgriffin.chemist@gmail.com on 11/19/2013

I began shoppiing for a new gauge when my Oregon Scientific quite working after about 2 years in the wet Texas Gulf Coast area. It only read to 0.04 inches per dump and so I was excited to see the ratings for this one before I bought it..

After I put it in service I too got a spider that webbed up the dump pan. Since I put in a small screen on the bottom I've had no problems.

I have two other manual gauges (A two part ten inch funnel gauge and a 5 inch funnel gauge) and all three compare extremely well.

This Acrutie gauge is the best one I've EVER had and plan to give it as a gift to relatives.

  14. need another review by mine doesnt work after a year on 7/24/2013

purchased at home depot phenix city, al little over yr ago has now quit and I liked it so much that I am going to purchase 2nd one have no idea what happened just quit tried everything--nodda

  15. Customer Service ROCKS! review by Jen on 7/11/2013

We bought this rain gauge at Home Depot. We got home and tried and tried to get it to work. No luck. We called up AcuRite and the customer service was AWESOME! They diagnosed that it had a bad receiver and shipped us out a brand new one within 12 days! I love the rain gauge and I am now a HUGE Fan of AcuRite!

  16. Spiders review by Kenneth on 2/19/2013

I had the same problem with spiders that another reviewer had, but I'd bet that's a problem with any brand. The battery compartent on mine got water in it after a bad storm and the unit failed. I'll try one more time. When it's clean and functioning, it's cool!

  17. good gauge review by Al on 8/9/2012

I would have given this a 5 start rateing except for the spiders. Yes spiders, they go down the hole in the catch cup and build webs on the teeter totter measuring device locking it up. I am now wondering if I install a screen over the catch cup to keep the spiders out would effect the measurements.
When the spiders were not a problem it works great. I have been useing it for over a year now brought it in over the last winter but didn't remove the batterys so it is still on the original ones. I think this winter I am just going to cover it with a sandwich baggie duck taped in place.

  18. Mine Works! review by Mike N on 4/12/2012

In light of the reviews on this site, I was not optimistic about this gauge, but it has worked beautifully for 3+ years. The two parts of the gauge are admittedly not very far apart, but it responds accurately, and is easy to read and reset. Even though the instructions suggest taking it in during freezing weather, I have left it out. It measured melting ice and snow very nicely. I'm sorry to hear of so many disappointed customers on this site, but I won't hesitate to buy another one of these if mine ever gives up the ghost.

  19. A nice, little gadget review by George on 4/12/2012

I have had this wireless rain gauge for several years now and it has never failed me. I set the collector/transmitter outside on a picnic table on the deck and the receiver on a windowsill in a direct line to each other That is the rule with just about any remote control device. They have to be able to "see" each other. Also, you have to keep the batteries fresh for it to work properly, but again, that is true for many battery-powered devices. I keep the alarm set to "on" and it has never failed to beep after a measurable amount of rain has fallen. I check the battery indicator every so often to see if the batteries need to be changed. I like gadgets -- I also have a wireless thermometer outside the house and you have to watch the batteries on that as well -- and this rain gauge is one of my favorites.
