Less widespread is our awareness of atmospheric pressure and it how it affects us. Building on our previous posts on how weather
data affects our lives, let’s dive into the two most common health effects associated with changes in barometric pressure:
1. Joint and Arthritis Pain:
Very high or low pressure, or rapid changes in pressure can increase arthritis and joint pain. Stay ahead of this pain and make your own pressure and pain correlations by monitoring the pressure changes at your house.
2. Migraines and Headaches:
Do you think people are crazy when they complain about pressure changes causing a migraine episode? Well studies show even minor changes in pressure can cause discomfort in our sinuses, inducing migraines or headaches in non-migraine sufferers. There is a correlation between migraine episodes and a pressure drop of 0.15 inHg (or 5 hPa or 5 mbar) less than the previous day. Interesting! See if you are affected by comparing your migraine episodes to the barometric pressure reading on your weather station.
