Northern California saw a rocky start to the summer with some Red Flag warnings already popping up due to increased fire risk. The month generally saw some mild conditions, with one notable heatwave early in the month; June 3rd and 4th. See the graph below to see how quickly the temperature decreased from June 4th to June 5th. My AcuRite Atlas™ reported the month's high temperature of 101.5 degrees F on the 4th, with a drastic overnight cooling and steady onshore flow, which resulted in a high temperature of only 65 degrees F on the 5th!
This heatwave event also broke some records throughout the Bay Area, specifically Santa Cruz, which saw a high of 95 degrees, beating it's previous June 3rd record of 93 degrees in 1949.
Later in the month, Red Flag warnings were issued in conjunction with anticipated high winds immediately following five days of near-90 degree temperatures. The Atlas reported maximum winds of 24 mph with this event on June 28th.
Meanwhile, the summer solstice brought the day with most prolonged sunlight this month with the hours of measured light maxing out at 14 hours and 45 minutes. No wonder it was so hard to get the kids to sleep at their regular bedtime this month!
