I owned an older version of AcuRite and the 5 in 1 is a tremendous improvement. Really like the color display and adjustable display. All the info I need for current and historical weather. Easy assembly and set-up. The app is a great tool away from home.
Performs as designed and expected so far. User friendly. Display is really bright! I would hang it on a wall as the stand isn't adequate. Gave it four stars for those two issues. Other than that...no complaints!
Old sending unit died. It was old so ordered a new sender and receiver. Real happy with the functionality and layout. BUT OMG even on the dimist setting it is like a jet landing in your room. So I keep the old display in the bedroom and the new one in the living room. Bright enough at night that I don't have to turn the kitchen lights on when I raid the freg! :) Hey R&D how about a no light setting for night time???
Clock display is AM and PM, no 24 hour clock option. Makes no since to me.
Display back light can be dimmed but is still very bright in a dark room. Needs a dimmer selection and back light off.
Needs the capability to see add on sensors
Power supply is different between the displays. Should all the same.
1-Rainfall data is excellent (can see last 3 events, last 2 months, last 2 years, and since you got the unit).
3-Maximum wind gust displayed without pressing any buttons.
4-Can display (and keep) dew point on the main display.
5-Nice information in the ticker, although it takes multiple button presses to cycle through it.
1-Can't turn off backlight. The lowest setting is 30% and that is way to bright for a bedroom.
2-Takes multiple button presses to see daily high and low (done through ticker).
3-Wish it could display data from 2 different sensors. National Weather Service recommends placing winds at 33 feet off the ground with temperature at 5 feet off the ground. Wish the display could mix data from 2 different sensors. Instead I have to have 2 separate displays (one for each sensor).
I purchased this with my 5 in 1 Pro Plus and they work great together. Easy to read and good information displayed. It has it all, at least for me it does. :-)
We had the original 5-in-1 with the color display and ordered 2 more displays in black and white. We were disappointed in the black and white version and returned them and ordered 2 of the color displays. We LOVE them. We have three (3) displays in our home. 1 in the master bath, 1 in the kitchen and 1 in our family room.
Sensor display is clear and easy to read. The backlight is certainly bright enough to adequately light up a room serving as a nightlight. I had relegated this one to the kitchen counter top and it does just that. HOWEVER the stand that comes with it is poorly designed and therefore inadequate to maintain the display in a stable manner. I find that when mounted in the supplied stand, the display is EXCEPTIONALLY topheavy and unstable and the slightest bump at it's top is enough to send it toppling over onto it's back, or worse the floor as mine did rendering it kaput! Unless Cheney redesigns the stand, or you intend to wall mount it, stay away from this unit.
The unit has a very nice, bright display and generally looks better than the original unit. It connected to my 5 in 1 quickly and works flawlessly. I agree that the ticker is not of much use as others have stated.
I would also like to have a way to turn the display completely off not just dim it as even on the dimmest setting it still lights up my kitchen at night. I would prefer to be able to turn it off with the touch spot on the front like the original unit does.
I had mine a few weeks and it just went dumb. The gang had me do some tests and they determined it needed return for repair. Repair was fast and the unit returned. I then noticed a problem with reception even though the other two Model 01010 black and white battery only were working OK.
Some troubleshooting here and since I live in semi-rural we have intermittent power and of course lots of lightning on the CO plains. Short end of the story is that I had plugged the AC adaptor into the UPS line that feeds the TV, satellite receiver and the DVD record/play. When I moved the adaptor to a regular AC kine the problem went away.
Today was the usual snow and blizzard conditions and the unit worked as well as could be expected with the sensor 65-feet away and covered in snow and ice. Even the black and white units were having problems keeping the signal until the blizzard let up.
Bottom line is that the customer service by the site link was great and the quick turn around better than expected.
And do make sure you have Lithium batteries in the sensor for the extreme winter cold.
This display is great, BUT misses one important feature that other weather stations have - a display of today's high and low outside temps and highest wind without having to watch the weather ticker.
I don't find the weather ticker to be that useful. The numbers are small and ticker display letters and numbers have an old-school tele-type appearance.
I think a nice feature would have the OUTSIDE temp number larger than the INSIDE temp.
We have put 15 up for family these are the best you will love it. Easy to install and setup.
I bought this display as part of the Weather Environment System with Wind and Rain. I admit that I would have preferred the 3-in-1 display as I like the colored LED on black background better, but I decided that the 5-in-1 data was more important.
This display is LCD over a multi-color, illuminated background. It has 3 brightness settings for the back light plus an auto feature. It displays all data from the external sensor, including some history and the weather ticker.
Things I like about it:
-The brightest setting is very bright and easy to read in any light.
-The different brightness settings.
-All of the information on one screen.
-The arrangement of the information on the screen just seems logical to me. That was part of the reason I picked this kit as they have 2 different styles of the 5-in-1 display. I like this one better.
-Battery backup for A/C operation in case of power failure.
Things that could stand to be improved:
-LCD cannot be viewed from several ordinary angles. I call them ordinary because they are close to looking at it dead on, yet the LCD digits are nearly invisible.
-Have the remote input switch on the front or back instead of behind the battery door. This allows those of us with multiple sensors to easily switch between them.
-The auto setting on the brightness doesn't seem to work for me. Not a big deal, more surprised then anything else.
After I powered it up, the display easily picked up the signal from the 5 in 1 sensor which I already had mounted 12 foot up in the air, about 65 foot away. I have good reception, despite the aluminum siding on the house. As the others have said, this display is visually impressive. The wind indicator circle in the middle almost looks 3D. The way the information is laid out is perfect, a lot there, but it does not seem cluttered, and the size of the numbers makes them easy to see at a distance. The ticker is very readable, and gives useful additional info. Initially, there was a problem with a couple of the ticker messages displaying errors, but the Acurite customer service folks made everything right for me. Another key thing they got right on this model is the calibration adjustments. To sum it up, if you have a 5 in 1 sensor, this is the display you want.
Product was easy to set up and works great. The color display is easy to use and the various features allow you to customize your display. Very pleased with my purchase.
A quantum jump over past displays. Easily installed. Worked immediately as a replacement display after loading batteries and setting channel. The display is brilliant and easily read 20 feet away. Beats any competitive display. No regrets about the purchase.
While only having this display a week or so I am very pleased. It started working the moment I put batteries in it (I already had a 5-in-1 sending signals) and was very easy to adjust to my time zone etc. I especially like that the numbers are large enough that I can see them from a distance away and the colors are very pleasing. I'm glad I got it.
We are thrilled with the quality and clarity of the color display. The lighted panel glows in the most beautiful shades of blues and greens. It's eye-catching and from across the room it almost looks like a small lighted aquarium. Instead of fish it shows the non-stop life of the weather outside. This technology is a real gift!
The color display is great and is very vibrant . Easy to read a much better display than then blue monochrome display that I initially purchased. Pretty easy to adjust preferences, that is all but the barometric pressure, but I am sure that I will figure it out.
The whole package is outstanding but the display might the best part of a very good package. The visibility and color are absolutely outstanding. Far far superior to anything else available, even in the most expensive of stations costing several hundred dollars. The layout is just perfect. I have two of the displays, one in the man cave and the other in the living room and am seriously thinking of a third one for the bedroom.
A couple of caveats. Free shipping is TERRIBLE, 2 weeks from the Midwest to the West Coast, even during the holidays, is too long. Pay the extra and get it before you grow old.
Customer service can be just as outstanding as the products, OR not so outstanding depending on you get. Wait times are always brutal but the instructions are pretty good so maybe you won't have to be on hold for an hour or more.
The bottom line is this and other products from this company are great products at great prices and I have resigned myself with living with the minor annoyances
I wish this was the one that came with my 5 in 1! It is so much easier to read, and gives all the important info at once. The only draw back is the price, if it was more affordable, I would have one in every room in my house!
My wife gave me the Acurite display for Christmas to complement the Acurite Aculink bridge and 5 in 1 weather station that i received for Christmas last year. I love having the display in addition to using the Acurite Aculink apps on my iphone and ipad. I especially like the quick refresh rate the display offers. Acurite makes great products! I would never hestitate recommending their products. Thank you Team Acurite!
A wonderful system. The color display is awesome over the old
LCD displays or backlight displays of the past. My only problem was that the wind readings in the weather ticker
show some unreadable digits at the end where mph should be --suspect a firmware problem..
I really wish I had spent the extra money when I bought the weather station. This display has everything displayed without pushing buttons and is readable from across the room. My only complaint is the date is displayed in the scrolling bar as DD/MM/YY but is set up in the center of the screen as MM/DD/YY. It is obvious as long as the record temps and wind are on dates larger than 12 but if not a person will confuse June 8th with Aug 6th. Since this information is minor to me it is not a major concern.
The technology has came a long way since the Heathkit ID-5001. All sensors are consolidated into 2 packages. The color display is beautiful and more than one can be used for each 5-in-one sensor. No backlight bulbs to replace. The Heahkit ID-5001 was fun to build though and has lasted 24 years, waiting to see how long the Acuright lasts but the cost is much lower. The 2nd Acuright display is wall mounted and used the left over stand for the Elenco AM/FM radio kit that had a lousy stand.
I love the color display. it is so much easier to read from across the room. Wish I could trade in my old display for an upgraded color one.
Wow is what I say about this display. So much better than the blue back lite one that came with my original 5-in-1 weather station. Very easy to read and love how it gives a scrolling messages at the bottom of the display on highest/lowest temp and wind speed ect. Great product.
This display has been my favorite over any others so far. The colors are very nice and bright and the weather ticker is lit up, which I havn't seen on other products before. As with my other Acu-rite weather stations, this one works like a charm. Readings are always accurate and it connected to the outdoor sensor very quickly. This display has a lot of goodies and should be used with everyone's 5n1 sensor. I have always been a big fan of the Acu-rite models over competitors and products like this are the reason why!
