We've owned this unit for more than 3 years, and it is reliable weather companion. The digits are easy to read, the 48 hour and all-time history is nice to have available, and the sensor can be quite a ways from the readout and still work. I rely on this unit daily for weather information.
I would have been OK just buying a replacement for the old Acurite unit that we had. The problem with that (other than age, I guess) was that the outdoor sensor was overrun with small ants, which made it inoperable. The differences between that old product and this one are as follows:
1) (and this is the biggest difference) the numbers on the display are significantly smaller. This unit sits on our kitchen counter, and the smaller display makes it much less readable from the other side of the room. This is the main reason I wouldn't buy this unit again.
2) the outdoor sensor is smaller (hopefully with fewer openings that ants would like) and has more options for hanging/mounting.
3) the temp records shown go beyond just the day. Honestly, I liked having the day's high and low temps right there. This one fluctuates between the day's records and other lengths of time's records. Not as relevant to me.
This thermometer is great. The only setup is to install batteries and you are set. The screen has the temperature and a clock and it even has highs and lows so you can see a lot of information at once.
