I wish I had read the specs a little closer, because I expected it to be a little larger based on the product image; but this was my fault. The specs clearly list the size.
But that would be the only thing I could say that was a bit of a concern and that quickly went away the moment I plugged it in. It doesn't need to be any bigger really, because the display is so clear and so readable from any angle that it turns out to be just the right size. Setup was dead simple with a routine that walks you through it on start up (and can be rerun on demand). The info presented is done in a logical way and I especially like the option to cycle through the screens at timed intervals while retaining the ability to quickly go to the main/home screen with a single button push.
This is a HUGE upgrade from the original display that came with my 5 in 1 setup, but the wonderful thing is that I can still use that display in my office as well. If you have one of the original tinted LCD panel style displays with their odd viewing angle, you really owe it to yourself to upgrade to this one. I chose this one specifically for it's integration with Acurite's lightning detector, which I plan on buying in a month or two when thunderstorm season starts again.
I like the mounting options, style and the choice of the layouts made by the designers. I really can't come up with a good reason to NOT replace your older display with this one. In fact, I will probably end up buying another one.
Well I just spent $89.00 for what I thought would be an instrument to connect to my computer darn missed on that one also NO BATTERY BACK-UP what was Accurite thinking my cheapo LaCrosse Instrument had back up and I could hook to the computer to download the data. I love the color display easy to read and with my eye sight this is a huge plus beats the h out of the grey scale of LaCrosse.
Accurite if this unit had a back up I would give you 5 stars but with no back up (battery) .
When I bought this product, I automatically expected the most out of it because it is an Acurite product. I plugged it up and it worked. Out of the box it already has a pretty reliable forecast.
After owning a 5-in-1 with dual displays and PC Connect, I decided I wanted to upgrade my display. Up front - I have decided to keep using the original display.
I should have read more about this model. I was thinking that I would be getting a replacement display, in an upgrade, from the one I was using, the one that has all of my previous data also on it. Well, this does not connect to your current data in any way, nor does it connect or have the ability to connect to transfer any of the data. It is only a display that shows current conditions.
All of my previous data will not show on this display. And if I unplug it to move it or anything else, for longer than 60 seconds? Guess what? All of your previous data is gone. There is no battery backup. Basically only good for showing conditions at your station. Period.
If you don't have a display and are getting a new station or sensors, than this display would be ok, though you still wouldn't be able to feed any of the data to your computer or elsewhere.
It's really too bad because the display is beautiful, was super easy to setup and connect, and I love most of the features. But for now, it is a night light in a room.
Incredibly bright & clear. This display can be easily read from the other side of the room to where it's mounted. Easy set-up, in fact by the time I'd got through the initial set-up the display had already connected to the 5-in-1 station & lightning detector and was reporting on the current weather. Accuracy seems to be extremely good compared with my previous weather station. If you're looking to upgrade from an existing set-up to a truly dynamic, colour display - this is the one to choose!
Overall, I like the display and the features. It works well, but there are two problems:
1. No battery backup. Half the fun is looking back at the record highs and lows, but they're all gone if the power goes out for more than a minute. I'm hoping I can put together my own battery backup, but this should really be included with the display.
2. Display is really bright! Nice during the day, but way too bright at night. Even with display set to lowest brightness, night dimming features on, it's still too bright. I really don't see much difference with brightness turned all the way down. I'm trying to make a colored screen with clear plastic that I can put over it at night. Shouldn't have to do that though!
Very good but wish it had a battery backup like my old one had. The display is very readable.
I replaced my Color 5-in-1 display with this and the display is very easy to read. I love the rain gauge display and still waiting for lightning to see that display. Down side is there is no battery backup if you decide to move it you will lose all your almanac data and settings. Like the night display, no more lighting up my office. And I wish I did not have to go to another screen to see the inside temperature and humidity. Overall, it is a good choice for the 5-in-1 display.
The new HD Display is beautiful. Easy to read at any angle, unlike the old one where I needed to view it straight on to use. I like being able to turn down the contrast and put it in black mode by changing the background from blue to black. Love the sleep mode to turn off the backlight but still having a 10 sec view by pushing any button. Love having an almanac to view and check data history. Like being able to add a lighting detector.
I wish the weather overview dashboard's upper right corner area was programmable. I would prefer to have either the indoor temp or outdoor humidity displayed instead of the scrolling messages. However when it does rain, I do like that it displays the days rain total.
Wish it had a battery backup, loss of power means loss of data history. I'm lucky to have the display in my office so I can plug it into my UPS.
Overall a great display, easy to use and read!
I love my HD display, and I put it on my desk so I can see it every day. I like that it will scroll between different screens, and gives me all the information I want on the overview. My only complaint is that it doesn't pick up my stand alone wireless temperature sensors. Other Acurite displays I have can do this, but not the HD display. The HD display seems like the perfect tool to display all my sensors in one place, so I don't have to open my computer or pull up an app on my phone to see the temp in my attic!
Still a great display, and altough it's pricier than the other displays, you get what you pay for!
This was a replacement display for the one that came with my 5-1. This is much cleaner, crisper and very easy to read even from a distance. I like the almanac feature as well as the at a glance weather information.
I really like this display. A very nice upgrade to my previous 06016M display. Easy to setup and works well. Very strong signal to 5-in-1 station. It's a bit pricey for a display. For the price it should have touch-screen. Also, I wish it would display both Indoor and Outdoor readings on one screen instead of switching screens.
I got the 5-in-1 Weather Station with one of these HD monitors and I just love it. I wanted to be able to also monitor the weather from the living room, so I got this additional monitor and it is doing everything I need.
They only give you a canned 3 screen choice. For example we would really like to see the indoor and outdoor temperature at one time on the same screen without having to press the button and change screens
The 'night' mode is messed up. it switches to a simple display but the screen is so white it's worse than having a light on in the room. You should be able to have the back light shut off at night.
This is the best display AcuRite has made. I have a more expensive weather station made by the other guys (brownish-gray case) as well and the Acurite beats it hands-down for clarity and readability. It's also more compact.
The display is always "on." Numerals are white on very dark blue and and layout of data is crisp. While the multi-colored displays of other Acurite stations look cute, this display looks professional and serious. This is a winner
Scrolling is easy and I like the signal strength meter feature. I made a little console to hold the Acurite, my other weather station, a radiation monitor and third, garage temp monitor. (see pic)
